F. Bamford & Co Ltd covers the sales and service world-wide for the Ajax Propellers and Propulsion shafting. It was founded in 1903 as Marine Engineers and has progressed to being one of the leading designers and manufacturers of Propellers, Shafting and Stern tubes, with satisfied customers throughout the world.


Ajax Marine Propellers are fixed pitch type and are normally manufactured in Manganese Bronze or Nickel Aluminium Bronze.


Ajax Sterngear incorporating shafting in various materials and lengths and with different types of lubrication is supplied separately or as part of a package together with Propellers ready to install in the ship.


Bamford also offer a technical consultancy service for customers wishing to re-engine or increase power on existing vessels.

Our manufacturing facility includes the
following dedicated machinery:

  • Binns & Berry L850 centre Lathe: 457mm dia over saddle, 10 m between centres, bed extension to 13m.

  • Broadbent centre lathe: 560mm dia over saddle, 1321mm dia over gap,
    9.14m between centres.

  • Gurutzpe centre lathe: 254mm dia over saddle, 6m between centres.

  • Carter & Wright No 8 key seater. Keyways upto 1.07m long on shaft dias upto 508mm; keyways can be cut on parallel or tapered shafts.

  • WGW hydraulic key setter. Keyways upto 610mm long.

  • Polymat hydraulic slotter: Maximum stroke 610mm, maximum keyway width 100mm.

  • Hydraulic shaft straightening press.

  • Good selection of support machines.

  • Maximum crane weight 6 tonnes.
