Structure

F. Bamford & Co Ltd employs a hierarchtical management structure with separate divisions for each of our company subsidiaries:

F. Bamford & Co Ltd

The parent group is headed by Chairman & Managing Director, Andrew Smith. He oversees the group as a whole and also heads each of the trading subsidiaries. Andrew Smith joined the company full time in 1972 after a brief spell as a Formula 1 Racing Mechanic and became the group managing director in 1983. His background is in Engineering and obtained an BSc(Hons) Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. He became a chartered engineer in 1978 and is also a recognised expert in the design of marine propellers. In his spare time Andrew is an avid collector of vintage and veteran cars and model stream trains.

F. Bamford (Engineering) Ltd

F. Bamford Engineering is responsible for the Bamford Doors operation within the group. This is managed by Alexis Smith (daughter of Andrew Smith). Alexis joined the Company in 2001 whilst studying a Level 5 Executive Diploma in Management at Stockport College. Her other qualifications relate to Business Health & Safety a secondary role to her current position. Alexis holds certificates in Risk Assessment, Fire Risk Assessment and a National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health. Her principle duties are the Sales and Marketing of the Bamford Door range.

F. Bamford (Instruments) Ltd

The instruments side of the business is currently managed by Graham Potts. Graham joined the company in January 1991 as an Instrument Technician, primarily involved in the assembly and calibration of the Ajax Temperature Transducer and Exhaust Temperature Monitoring System.

 

As the structure of the company developed, he then had the opportunity to become responsible for purchasing, with elements of sales at a semi-managerial level. In 2001 Graham was appointed as General Manager of the company, a role in which he continues today. 

Other Significant Employees

The other director of the group is Bert Wright. Bert was born and educated in Manchester and joined the group in 1965. He has been involved in account management in 3 Stockport engineering companies manufacturing Bailey Bridge equipment, Overhead Electric Travelling cranes and Marine Sterngear and Propellers.

 

Peter Hampson is the company secretary and manages the accounting side for the group. Peter joined the group in March 2004, from his previous employment as Company Secretary of New Haden Pumps Ltd. Peter has over 30 years experience in manufacturing organisations which include G.E.C. Power Engineering and Rio Tinto Zinc. 

 

Wayne Dibden is the Technical and Quality manager. Wayne joined the group in 1989 as a design draughtsman having trained in all disciplines of workshop machinery and achieved a technicians apprenticeship and a HNC in mechanical engineering. Previous experience in Power Generation, Power Transmission and Rollforming Industries provided him with a solid foundation in general engineering.

 

He began development on the current range of Bamford frame sections in 1990 and exercises a continuous improvement operation of the designs to this day. He was appointed Group Technical Manager in 2001, helping to maintain the group status as a BS EN ISO 9001 : 2000 registered company.

 

Ram Patel is the Factory Operations Manager. He joined the group in 1984 setting and operating the auto machines. Since then he has performed a number of functions including drilling, centre lathe turning and charge hand. Ram became Chief Inspector for the group in the early 90s and was appointed in his current role in 2005.
